Corfu Town

One visit not to miss on your holiday to Corfu is a day out in Corfu Town. One of the most historical towns in the Greek islands and Corfu's capital, Corfu Town is a delight with its lovely flower filled squares and Venetian architecture which gives the town a distinct Italian feel, the whole atmosphere is bustling charming and elegant. You will also find Norman, French, Roman and even British influences; take a walk down to the beautifully kept Cricket pitch where games are regularly played.

Corfu Town has something for everyone, old tavernas where you can sit and sip a cool drink and watch the world go by, smart new restaurants and bars where you can relax and unwind after a your trip around the shops. Night life is mainly centred around the tavernas and bars, but for those who want to dance to the early hours there are a small number night clubs and discos.

If history is your passion Corfu town has several good museums which are well worth taking time out to visit. Also there are two fortresses. The old fortress as it is know which has original foundations dating back to 6th century AD is well worth a visit, with its imposing walls over looking the sea is an excellent vantage point to view the rest of Corfu Town and the harbour. Open daily to the public.

Corfu Town Accommodation

There is a good variety of accommodation available within the town. If you want first class accommodation in a smart modern hotel the Corfu Palace is situated in an excellent position. The hotel has spacious rooms all with sea view balconies and beautifully appointed marble bathrooms. The hotel also has excellent sports and leisure facilities and is set in large landscaped gardens.

Some of the older hotels such as the Bella Venezia hotel which has only
recently been renovated are well worth considering; this magnificent historic neoclassical building is full of character. Located behind Corfu Town's main square, in a quiet central area is an ideal base to explore the rest of Corfu.
