Corfu Town
One visit
not to miss on your holiday to Corfu is a day out in Corfu Town. One
of the most historical towns in the Greek islands and Corfu's capital,
Corfu Town is a delight with its lovely flower filled squares and Venetian
architecture which gives the town a distinct Italian feel, the whole
atmosphere is bustling charming and elegant. You will also find Norman,
French, Roman and even British influences; take a walk down to the beautifully
kept Cricket pitch where games are regularly played.
Corfu Town
has something for everyone, old tavernas where you can sit and sip a
cool drink and watch the world go by, smart new restaurants and bars
where you can relax and unwind after a your trip around the shops. Night
life is mainly centred around the tavernas and bars, but for those who
want to dance to the early hours there are a small number night clubs
and discos.
If history
is your passion Corfu town has several good museums which are well worth
taking time out to visit. Also there are two fortresses. The old fortress
as it is know which has original foundations dating back to 6th century
AD is well worth a visit, with its imposing walls over looking the sea
is an excellent vantage point to view the rest of Corfu Town and the
harbour. Open daily to the public.

There is
a good variety of accommodation available within the town. If you want
first class accommodation in a smart modern hotel the Corfu Palace is
situated in an excellent position. The hotel has spacious rooms all
with sea view balconies and beautifully appointed marble bathrooms.
The hotel also has excellent sports and leisure facilities and is set
in large landscaped gardens.
Some of
the older hotels such as the Bella Venezia hotel which has only
recently been renovated are well worth considering; this magnificent
historic neoclassical building is full of character. Located behind
Corfu Town's main square, in a quiet central area is an ideal base to
explore the rest of Corfu.
